From a footy playing point of view it was a tough day at the MCG of the East this week as all 3 teams went down to Lilydale. Injuries and overseas travel have ravaged our lists with both the under 19s and Seniors feeling the pinch. The Seniors will enjoy the bye next week with the under 19s at home against Mooroolbark Saturday morning @ 10.00 - Would be great to see a large crowd out supporting the unders in a must win clash for them.
Off field the Presidents / Sponsors lunch with 4 time premiership Hawk Sam Mitchell was an over whelming success as we crammed in 140 guests. Apologies to those who we had to shuffle around to make the seating work, but your support and commitment to the Mitcham Footy Club is greatly appreciated. BIG thank you to Sam Mitchell who was absolutely fantastic and our new boundary rider in Rob Petracca who did an excellent job. Thanks Also to Dane Wilson Julie Searl, our under 12s Girls coach Ruby and her girls for the excellent work in the Kitchen. Shout out also to our fantastic sponsors in Nickos Greek Tavern for another quality Feed - PLUS our resident photographers in Graham Bradtke Aly Waters and Paul Corris for their normal high standard of photos
Under 19s
Always a tough gig against the undefeated Lilydale. We went into the game severely undermanned and with the opposition running six off the bench at a time compared to our zero it was always going to be tough. Our first half was really impressive with our attack on the footy the best we have seen for several weeks. Our tackling and pressure over the entire ground was second to none and this gave us the opportunity to keep Lilydale honest. With a tiring team on the park and no bench up our sleeve the second half saw us fade and Lilydale were able to run out with a solid win. Tom Lucas and Luke McKeown were standouts through the midfield while Toby Ward backed up the last few weeks with a very solid performance in an undermanned backline. Thanks to Luke Ward for helping out while our numbers were down. Much appreciated by the entire team and coaches! Stand alone game this weekend v Mooroolbark so we would appreciate as much support as possible! With the boys still in the top four every game from here on in is crucial. Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.
Well done and a big thank you to all those that attended the Sponsors lunch was another great event for the club as we build to long term and sustainable success

Reserves
Saturday was very disappointing day for the 2’s as we were beaten by a far better side on the day. Our start on Saturday in the 1st qtr. was terrific as we pressured them in our fwd. line for the first 10 mins of the game, unfortunately we couldn’t capitalise in front of goal. The 2nd qtr. was a completely different story we went away from our structure and really looked like a side that lost its way and they kicked away to lead by 5 goals. To the boys credit we came out in the 2nd half and played much better however the damage was done as Lilydale kicked on to comfortably win by 10 goals. Not having our best side able to play right now due to injuries and unavailability has become telling as we just can’t kick a score good enough to be competitive, our effort and endeavour I can’t question as we are having a real crack, our back 6 were good once again and our on ballers were solid also. It leaves us 6 & 6 with East Doncaster next, with a few blokes to return from injury we must get back on the win train again to keep in touch.
Seniors
This week we played Lilydale who we had a terrible lost to in round 3. We knew we would have to play some good footy to reverse the result come home with the 4 points. It was a very tight match right throughout the day with both teams having their periods of ascendency. Unfortunately for us we conceded 2 late goals just before half time and repeated the dosage just before 3/4 time to go into the last quarter down by 9 points. The last quarter was disappointing as we were unable to kick a goal and ended up going down by 5 goals. Cam Taylor and Tyler Arrowsmith played really good defensive roles for us by shutting down a couple of dangerous opponents. The bye comes at a good time for us to freshen up and attack the last portion of the season fiercely. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us, a special thanks to everyone who attended the president’s lunch it was a fantastic turnout.
