The Grafton Tigers AFL team has roared into premiership contention after downing reigning premiers Sawtell Saints.
The win was the third consecutive victory for the Tigers, who have been the competition whipping boys for the past decade or more.
Under new coach, Adi Campbell, the Tigers have secured top spot on the ladder following two wins on the road at North Coffs and Port Macquarie.
The Tigers were desperate to continue that form at Grafton in their first home game of the season at J J Lawrence Field.
Although the Tigers allowed the Saints some easy goals in the forth quarter, they were never in danger as they triumphed by 51 points.
Shawn Purton led the way with six goals while Dale Beaver kicked four majors and Dan Zacek two.
Stand out players were Sam Morrison, Shawn Purton and Matt Norris.
Tigers: 15.18 (108) - Saints: 8.9 (57)
RESERVES
In the reserve grade the saints came out hard with a six goal onslaught in the first term that threatened to overwhelm the Tigers.
However, the Tigers roared back with key players digging deep, but the saints held on to sneak home by two points.
Best for the Tigers were Lachlan Bell with two goals, Shaun Duroux with one goal and on-baller Damien O'Bryan.
Tigers: 10.11 (71) - Saints: 11.7 (73)
