This past weekend was a successful one. In the Boys Honours Grade: It was a round robin format, followed by semi’s and finals. In semi final #1; the top seed Waimea College A played the fourth seed Marlborough College A. Waimea winning 3-0, with scores of 25 -14 , 25 -14, 25 -9. In the other semi; second seed Nayland College played Nelson College. Nelson College prevail 3-0, with the scores of 26 – 24 , 25 – 23, 25 – 23. The match for third and fourth was was an important one as Tasman has only 3 spots in the Division One at the NZ School champs next week in Palmerston North. The winner goes as the third seed and the loser will represent Tasman in Division Two. Nayland won 3 -1 over Marlborough College with scores of 22- 25, 25 – 14, 27 – 25, 25 -18. The Nayland qualified as the 3rdseed. The Final saw Waimea remain undefeated on the season with a 3 – 0 win over Nelson College: 25 – 13, 25 -20 and 25 – 17. So Waimea College will represent Tasman as the top seed, Nelson College as the second seed, Nayland third and Marlborough College fourth.
The Girls Honours grade was just a round robin format, the team with the most victories heads to The NZ School champs as the top seed. Day one saw some good matches, but the battle for the top seed was all on Sunday. As the top 4 seeds in the tournament went to battle against one another. The top 4 seeds will be in Division One at NZ School Champs next week in Palmerston North. It came down to some thrilling 5 set matches on Sunday afternoon to have a winner prevail. Some Highlights were: Waimea College A win over Nelson College for Girls A in a 5 set thriller which came down to 15- 13 fifth set victory. A nail bitter between Nelson College for girls A and Nayland College A, with Nayland College A, pulling threw with a fifth set 15 – 12 victory. The top four seeds from the week to represent Tasman in Division One are:1st seed- Waimea College A 2nd seed- Nayland College A , 3rd seed- Nelson College for Girls A, 4th seed- Marlborough Girls College A and to represent Tasman in Division Two 5th seed- Nelson College for Girls B, 6th seed- Nayland College B, 7th seed- Marlborough Girls College Gold. It was a strong weekend for both Boys and Girls Volleyball in Tasman as the level of Volleyball has really improved over the last month and a half. It was a clean sweep for Waimea this weekend. With both the Men’ and Women’s teams winning the Honours grades. The Junior boys Title went to Waimea 10 Gold, who defeated Nelson College Oxford. In Senior Girls Division I: Waimea College B defeated Marlborough G.C All Stars. In Senior Girls Division II: Club Waimea defeated Marlborough G.C Blue. In the Junior Girls : Waimea 10’s prevailed over the Waimea 9 Gold team .
Big Thank You’s go out to Tasman and Nelson Bays Volleyball Members and to The staff at Saxton Stadium, for a job well done. The Stadium looking amazing, it was nice to see so many parents and students out to support the players and teams.
