PNOC hosted an Oceania Sports Education Program (OSEP) Strength & Conditioning Course and the OSEP Development Coaching Course from October 9 - 14, 2017. Among some of the amazing high profile coaches and trainers were from Fiji Rugby who presened this course. There were about 11 participants in the course to include Christopher Kitalong our new UWW referee / offiicla and coach as well as John Tarkong Jr. from wrestling.
The level of the training targeted our National Coaches, considering the Micronesian Games is next year. The coaches that attended were required to have experience coaching at national level (any age group, ex. youth & senior national teams) and for those actively coaching. This was a great opportunity to identify your coaches for Micronesian Games and other international tournaments in order to give them the training they need to effectively develop a program to prepare our teams.
This course was designed to provide aspiring Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coaches with the skills to use the functional movement screen to develop appropriate conditioning training for athletes and help meet the demands of their specific sport. In addition, it provided the skills for coaches to develop periodization plans and fitness tests to check the progress of our athletes. The Development Coaching Course allowed us to review and focus on coaching styles, processes while planning and helping us review and discuss how to deliver our programs. We looked at our functional roles, coaching principles, values and codes of conduct. It was really a good course over the week.
