Rules and Regulations
THE 6th WORLD MASTERS GAMES SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIPS
ENTRY QUALIFICATION
*The 6th World Masters Squash Championships are open to all competitors 35 years and over.
*Competitors must have attained the minimum age by the first day of the Championships, 7 October 2002. Verification of date of birth is required.
*Players may only enter in their own age band event as listed on the Entry Form, and may only enter in one (1) event in the Individual Championships.
MATCH CONTROL
8All matches are played under the International Rules of the World Squash Federation.
*The Triple Plate System will operate for the Individual Championships to cater for all standards.
*A minimum of 3 matches will be guaranteed.
*The Tournament Committee reserves the right to combine any events where insufficient entries are received and to re-grade entries where considered appropriate.
PLAYER RESPONSIBILITIES
INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
*All players are required to fulfil their commitment and play relevant Plate Events.
*Players must register at Tournament Control at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match times.
*The Tournament Committee reserves the right to disqualify any player who is not ready to begin their match at the appropriate time, or any amended time, in accordance with the conduct of the draw for the event.
*It is the responsibility of each player to be at their allocated court in acceptable squash clothing and ready to play at the advertised start time of their match. Players not present within 15 minutes of the start time will be scratched from the championships.
*Players will be required to mark and referee the match immediately following their match.
INTERNATIONAL MIXED TEAMS EVENT
*One member from each team shall officiate for the first match and the duties of marker and referee shall alternate for subsequent matches.
*Result Cards shall be handed to Tournament Control at the conclusion of each team match, and shall be countersigned by the Captain of each team.
*Reserve players may be approved by the Tournament Committee, to play for any team subject to being of similar grading.
REGULATIONS
WSF Tournament Rules will be applicable for the World Masters Games Singles and the International Mixed Teams Events.
PRACTICE COURTS
Practice courts will be available prior to the start of the tournament.
All practice courts at MSAC must be booked via the Squash Centre on 9926-1545.
A list of alternative practice venues are available from the Victorian Squash Federation, on 9682-2199.
TOURNAMENT CONTROL DESK
The Tournament Control Desk is located within the squash centre at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre and can also provide additional information to participants such as details about accommodation, restaurants, transport, practice courts etc.
The office will be open daily from 9:00AM to 7:00PM.
PLAYER CHANGE ROOMS
Public change room facilities accessed from the MSAC main foyer will be used for all matches played in the squash centre area of MSAC.
SECURITY
All players officials and accompanying persons are required to wear their official Games Accreditation Tag when in the MSAC.
Some of the event personnel have been contracted for the Games and may not necessarily know who you are.
Lockers are available in the MSAC complex, at a charge rate of $1 p/day.
SQUASH BAG STORAGE
All squash bags must be left in the designated location at the venue, which is located next to the four wall glass court in the squash centre.
A bag identification tag is included in your registration bag.
Please do not leave bags lying anywhere else in the venue. No responsibility can be taken for bags by the organisers.
SQUASH BALL
The Dunlop Revelation Pro XX (double yellow dot) ball will be used for all matches.
REFEREES
A Tournament Referee has been appointed and is supported by a Referees Committee
Qualified Referees of an appropriate standard may be allocated to the semi-finals and finals of open events in each age band.
CLOTHING REGULATIONS
In all matters of judgement or opinion arising from interpretation of these guidelines the decision of the Tournament Referee shall be final
The following clothing guidelines shall apply:
*Player clothing shall consist of a shirt with a collar, skirt or shorts, socks and playing shoes. Players may wear clothing of any colour or combination of colours.
*T- shirts without collars, singlets, tank tops, rugby tops, g-strings, backless tops and football socks are not acceptable.
*Headwear, other than that worn for religious, cultural, or medical reasons is not permitted, with the exception of head-bands, bandannas, straps for eyewear, or approved eye-guards.
*Any jewellery or watches worn shall not be so conspicuous or reflective as to distract an opponent and shall not be noisy or dangerous.
CODE OF CONDUCT
The following offences may be subject to penalties and/or disciplinary action under Rule 17 of the International Singles Game of Squash:
*A player who verbally or physically abuses his opponent, the Marker, Referee, officials, spectators or sponsors.
*A player who shows dissent to the Marker, Referee or officials, including foul or profane language and obscene or offensive gestures.
*A player who abuses playing equipment or the court.
*A player who fails to comply with the conditions of entry of a championship, this includes any rules with regard to clothing or advertising.
*A player who having entered a championship or accepted an invitation to play withdraws from the event or fails to attend.
*A player who fails to complete a match for any reasons other than injury, illness or emergency situation.
*A player who defaults from a championship. The Disciplinary Committee may require evidence or proof of 'bona fide' injury, illness or other emergency situation.
*A player who does not comply with the Rules or spirit of the Game.
*A player guilty of any other unreasonable conduct which brings the game into disrepute.
DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE
Objectives
The Disciplinary Committee shall:
*Uphold the good name of the World Squash Federation (WSF), the Victorian Squash Federation (VSF), the Australian Masters Squash Association (AMSA), and the Game.
*Resolve all problems relating to the conduct of players in their relations with each other, officials sponsors and the public.
Powers
The Disciplinary Committee shall have the power to:
*Impose a warning or fine.
*Withhold a medal(s) from a player subject to disciplinary action.
*Recommend to the WSF such action considered to uphold the objectives of the Disciplinary Committee.
*Send a report to the WSF and/or relevant national squash association in relation to any disciplinary action, including recommendations if appropriate.
Procedures
Following the report of an incident, the Committee shall ;
*Advise the player of the likely charge to be made and invite the player to make a written explanation of the reported incident.
*Convene a meeting comprising (3) three members of the Committee, the player and if requested a representative of the player.
Within fourteen (14) days of notification of a disciplinary penalty the player may lodge a written appeal to the WSF. This appeal shall be accompanied by a fee of $50.
The appeal shall be heard by a Committee appointed by the WSF for that purpose.
If the appeal is upheld the $50 shall be returned otherwise it is forfeited.
ROUND ROBIN SCORING
INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Wherever possible the Triple Plate System will operate for each of the Individual Championship events. If due to numbers, the Tournament Committee deems an event should be played under the round robin system the following criteria will apply.
The winner of a round robin individual event shall be decided as follows:
An undefeated player shall be declared the winner. If no player is undefeated the player with the most match points shall be declared the winner. Match points will be awarded as follows:
3 - 0 win 5 points
3 - 1 win 4 points
3 - 2 win 3 points
2 - 3 loss 2 points
1 - 3 loss 1 point
0 - 3 loss 0 points
If match points are equal, the player with the highest number of matches won will be declared the winner. If matches won are equal, the player with the highest ratio of games won to games lost will be the winner.
If the ratio of games won to games lost is equal, the winner will be the player with the highest ratio of points won to points lost.
If points won to points lost is equal, the winner of their match will be the winner of the event.
INTERNATIONAL MIXED TEAMS EVENT
The winner of a round robin team event shall be decided as follows:
An undefeated team shall be declared the winner.
If no team is undefeated the team with the most match performance points shall be declared the winner.
In a Tie (3 individual matches played between 2 opposing teams), individual match performance points (MPP¡¦s) will be awarded as follows:
3 - 0 win 5 points
3 - 1 win 4 points
3 - 2 win 3 points
2 - 3 loss 2 points
1 - 3 loss. 1 point
0 - 3 loss 0 points
The team with the most MPP's at the conclusion of each Tie, will be awarded an additional 4 points, providing a maximum total of 19 match points.
If two or more teams are equal on total match points, the team with the highest ratio of games won to games lost will be declared the winner.
If the ratio of games won to games lost is equal, the winner of their match will be declared the winner of the event.
If an event is combined (ie 45-54 and 55-64), only match results against teams in the same age group are relevant, providing always that there is 2 or more teams in the one grouping in the combined event.
