Scale: 1:5,000 or 1:7,500
Contour interval: 5 m
Land Forms: Flat urban parkland - predominantly Australian grasslands
Vegetation: Fast running throughout the open land (native grasslands) and pine plantations; large flat areas of grassland with small wooden fences which can be easily crossed
Ground: Hard ground throughout the parkland
Visibility: Excellent throughout the parkland - scattered trees and tree-lined roads
Marshes: Several dams and small areas of marsh
Roads/paths: Extensive network of minor roads and paths in the city of Ballarat
LONG EVENT - 11 January 2005
Scale: 1:10,000 or 1:15,000
Contour interval: 5m
Land Forms: Typical Australian spur/gully terrain with extensive areas of Australian goldmining terrain (small erosion features caused by gold mining operations in 1850's)
Vegetation: Predominantly fast running in spur/gully terrain and slow running in goldmining terrain; several gullies have fight vegetation (gorse and blackberry) which influences route choice
Ground: Hard ground in most of the area (few small marshes near dams); limited undergrowth
Visibility: Excellent in native bush areas due to control burning of undergrowth in May 2004; bracken fern is the predominant undergrowth but is under 1 metre in height; some thick new growth in areas of logging/firewood collection
Marshes: Very limited in this area - few dams and all watercourses are seasonal
Roads/Paths: Extensive network of paths and roads near the edge of the city of Ballarat
